Table Setting

Whether casual or formal, simplicity or complexity, your table setting should be in line with the type of meal being served. For instance if you set the table with everyday dishes and have only one fork, one spoon and a cotton linen napkin, that would indicate a casual meal. Now if the table was set with bone china, two forks, two spoons, one for dessert, than that would certainly be considered a formal affair. If you were serving meatloaf, mashed potatoes and corn, this would be obviously casual, one fork meal. I say use the dishes that are calling your name. I even like to do an eclectic variety of different patterned dishes. So long as they are of the same material, all ceramic or all china and so on, they can make for an interesting and beautiful table decor. Casual decor as this sometimes seems to send a comforting emotional response to guests. Below are some examples of different patterns of dishes and how one might set them for formal and/or casual.
